IGCC is the third party sponsor of a certification program, which provides for the certification of sealed insulating glass for seal durability per the ASTM E773 & E774 and/or ASTM E2190 Test Method. In order for a product to be certified in the IGCC certification program, we must receive three (3) things:
  1. Signed License Agreements
  2. Passing test reports
  3. Payment for appropriate certification fee's
Once your facility is ready to produce test samples, you should notify this office. An IGCC representative must witness initial prototype sample fabrication. Typically we can arrange a witness of fabrication within two (2) weeks. You will be provided an Invoice to cover the fee for this initial witness of sample fabrication. Test units will be identified with a specific IGCC "P" or Prototype number. Requirements for test sample fabrication are listed below:

  • 12 units, 14 x 20 inches
  • 3/16 or 1/4-inch glass
  • 1/4 to 1/2- inch spacer
You may cut the glass and spacer prior to the IGCC representative's arrival, but all other aspects of sample fabrication must be witnessed. There are situations where deviation from this unit construction is acceptable (i.e. spacer bender that will only accommodate 1/2 - inch spacer). Consult the IGCC office for these acceptable alternate constructions. Additionally, if you wish to certify units with muntins, grills, coated glass, or means for gas filling, the test units MUST contain these options.

Once the test samples have been fabricated, they should be delivered to the IGCC approved laboratory of your choice for testing. The fee for this test should be arranged between you and the laboratory. Upon completion of testing, passing test results should be provided to this office. We will invoice you the appropriate IGCC certification fees at that time, and upon receipt of payment, issue you "authorization to use the IGCC mark" on your product. Your product will then be listed in the twice per year IGCC Certified Product Directory (CPD), and your facility will receive an IGCC product inspection once each six months. During one of these visits, annual retest samples will need to be fabricated.

IGCC additionally requires licensees to have a working quality assurance program for the fabrication of insulating glass. IGCC does not define the type or details of a program; simply that one must be in place. These requirements were adopted to improve the overall quality of IG units in the program, and also satisfy requirements established by the Department of Housing and Urban Development, HUD.

A licensee’s QA program, as a minimum, must have the following elements:

  1. A quality manual
  2. Operating procedures documenting how IG units are fabricated
  3. A designated person responsible for quality assurance
  4. Routine product or component checks
You may wish to contact your suppliers for assistance with this material or please contact this office & we can supply additional information that may be of help.

Compliance with IGCC quality assurance requirements will be verified at the first plant visit after initial product certification.
